A Leadership Story from NIG Nutritionals

Just completed the first session of a year-long leadership development journey with the incredible team at NIG Nutritionals (New Image) — and I couldn’t be more inspired.

This program is not just another training initiative. It represents a strategic and rare commitment to investing in people — something we don’t see enough of, especially in the industrial and manufacturing sectors here in New Zealand.

A huge acknowledgement to Leon, CEO of NIG Nutritionals, whose visionary leadership made this possible. Leon made a bold decision to initiate a 12-month, in-person training program with a clear long-term view: build leadership depth, grow internal capability, and identify future leaders across the organisation. That kind of leadership investment is not only rare — it’s courageous.

Supporting this on the ground is Chris, GM Manufacturing, who has been instrumental in ensuring that the training integrates smoothly with daily operations. His engagement and support set the tone for learning to truly land.

We’re using Heliview’s VERA8 Leadership System — a holistic framework that blends assessment, coaching, and group development. One of the most powerful aspects of the program is its individual tailoring: different leaders require different techniques, tools, and approaches to their development — all focused on future readiness and long-term success. It’s a journey in itself.

It’s early days, but already the impact is visible:

“I’ve attended many leadership courses, but this one is very unique and has brought me so much knowledge I’ve never heard before.”
“The leadership assessment tools are really reliable and practical — I know exactly where I should focus on to make improvements.”
“I can see leadership behaviors in some managers are actually changing.”

Several participants have already demonstrated clear leadership potential in their current roles, and the company has begun shaping career pathways for them. These high-potential individuals were actually the starting point and drivers for launching this entire leadership initiative.

📊 Why does this matter? Because the link between leadership and performance is crystal clear:

  • McKinsey: Companies with strong talent management practices are 2.2x more likely to outperform competitors on total shareholder return.
  • A Deloitte study found that organisations with strong leadership development programs are 1.5x more likely to be high-performing.
  • Gallup: Highly engaged teams have 21% higher profitability and 59% less turnover — direct evidence that investing in leadership and culture drives results.

This partnership with NIG Nutritionals is a standout example of what’s possible when leadership is not just a title, but a daily, strategic practice.

Looking forward to the following months of growth, challenge, and transformation!
